Gavin Maughfling @gavinmaughfling is a painter, working in oils to explore the psychology of space, colour and gesture within interpersonal relationships, and he also makes films.

🔹 What’s your favourite medium to work with?
Oil paint on canvas.

🔹 What’s your biggest creative achievement?
I can’t choose one! - many creative ventures including exhibitions, curating and teaching, all of which are linked in some way. I am very proud of the two major shows I co-curated with Suzanne de Emmony featuring artists in Singapore and London; some of my own solo exhibitions including the most recent one at Bermondsey Project Space, and my most recent set design commission.

🔹 What does a typical day in the studio look like for you?
I cycle from home, unlock my space, get changed into messy painting clothes, take a look at what I left behind the day before, and then start work. After that it’s pretty much work all the way through until it’s time to clean up and go home. Sometimes if I need to take a break to think through things I’ll go downstairs to Idris’s for a strong coffee.

🔹 Do you have any upcoming projects or events that we should look out for?
I was recently commissioned to design and paint the sets for a new dance work by Stpehen Pelton, which will be premiering at the O Plus Festival in the States in October. It will be shown in London too at a later date.

Ethel Davies @ethel.davies takes conventional photographs inspired by her professional practice, converts them into three-dimensional views (anaglyphs) and manipulates them further via filters. With the help of special viewers, the results are extraordinary life-like images.

🔹 What’s your favourite medium to work with?
I work most with digital photography and Photoshop.

🔹 What does a typical day in the studio look like for you?
I view, scan and print, ultimately producing hard copies of my images, often leading to long studio days of running my printer. In addition, I also use the facilities to create the final presentation of the photographs.

🔹 What’s your biggest creative achievement?
I’m proud of the 5 books I’ve produced with Doublevision Publishing, my imprint.

🔹 Do you have any upcoming projects or events that we should look out for?
I’m hoping to reprint The London Postcode Book in 3D, and possibly produce more 3D books.

🔹 What's your favourite medium to work with?
Materials such as metal, primarily gold and silver, as well as cotton and various other textiles.

🔹 What does a typical day in the studio look like for you?
My days in the studio vary each day, depending on what I need to do. It might involve working on a jewellery commission, or focusing on some of my side projects that encompass mixed media such as weaving, drawing, printmaking, or creating videos.

🔹 What's your biggest creative achievement?
Designing and making costumes and masks for a music video for Charo Galura, a music artist and creative director.

Meet @geoff_gunby_art

"I grew up in a small town next to the sea, an experience which has affected me profoundly. The effect of the clear bright light picking out every detail on the faces of the people all around me and of the tawdry seafront buildings towering over me as a child has stayed with me all my life and set the basic template for the artwork I have gone on to produce. I like to paint people and things as they are in all their itness, strangeness and complexity and to try and express the uniqueness of their being, what it is that makes them what they are to me. Long experience of staring at album covers had led me to embrace pop, or rather faux pop, art as a means of embracing failure. I particularly enjoy painting portraits and actively seek commissions."

Elizabeth Bone @liz_bone is a jewellery artist, maker and educator.

🔸What’s your favourite medium to work with?

For over thirty years I have worked in precious metals. While I still work in metal and enjoy the techniques and possibilities it has to offer, I have over the last few years made a shift towards working with waste materials and in-particular plastic from domestic waste. I have also created a collection of pieces from broken drumsticks.

🔸What does a typical day in the studio look like for you?

A typical day would be full of creativity, planning and designing and working on new pieces for my Chain Reaction collection, a new body of work created from oat milk ring pulls.

🔸What’s your biggest creative achievement?

One that stands at the top has to be writing a book - Silversmithing for Jewellery Makers: techniques, treatments and applications for inspirational design. Published by Search Press 1st edition 2011, 2nd edition 2022 also published in USA, France, Italy.
